EKON Industry Construction and Trade Inc. has been awarded the supply of civil design and manufacturing of structural steel for Nyumba Ya Akiba in the Democratic Republic of Congo by FLSmidth on the 9th November 2014.
The Nyumba Ya Akiba cement plant of a capacity of 3.000 TPD of clinker will use local limestone and clay as raw materials and imported coal as fuel and is located about 250 km from Kinshasa (the capital city of D.R. Congo) and 100 km from Matadi Port in the Songololo Territory of Bas Congo Province of Democratic Republic of Congo. Bas-Congo is the only province of the country with a coastline (Atlantic Ocean).
The Nyumba Cement will ease the country’s dependency on expensive imports, which stand at over 50% of total cement consumption and its output will target a vast area of the country and stimulate infrastructure development while supporting the local private sector, particularly small and medium enterprises, by promoting the reinforcement of the local supply value chain.
Within the content of the project, EKON shall perform design of all structures which are considered a natural part of the equipment, design of cable tunnels, trenches, supports for ducts, stacks, elevators, general documentation such as technical specifications for construction works, material requirements, test procedures, manufacturing and supply of structural steel (including stair tower, handrails, platforms, gratings, checkered plates, bolts, etc..) and anchor bolts and site erection supervision.
In the scope of the project approximately 1480 tons of steel structures will be manufactured and supplied on a FOB basis to Alsancak Port / Izmir.
